THE RELIGIOUS CHARITIES REGULATIONS 2023

Coming into operation In accordance with regulation 2

The Attorney General makes the following Regulations under sections 10(3) and 46 of the Charities Registration and Regulation Act 2019.

Title

1. These Regulations are the Religious Charities Regulations 2023.

Commencement

2. These Regulations come into operation on the day after they are approved by Tynwald.

Exemption from registration

3. The institutions specified in the Schedule are exempted from the requirement to register under section 10(1) of the Charities Registration and Regulation Act 2019

4. Revocation

The Religious Charities Regulations 1999 [SD 1999/0392] are revoked.

SCHEDULE

INSTITUTIONS EXEMPTED FROM REGISTRATION

Church of England

The Sodor and Man Diocesan Board of Finance.

Any parochial church council.

[The Chapter of the cathedral church of Saint German.]

An incumbent or churchwardens, within the meaning of the Church Property Measure (Isle of Man) 2021.

Roman Catholic Church

The Archdiocese of Liverpool.

Methodist Church

The Trustees for Manx Methodist Church Purposes.

The trustees of any property held for, or for purposes of, any local church of the [Methodist Church].

United Reformed Church

The trustees of any property held for, or for purposes of, any local church of the United Reformed Church.

Society of Friends

The trustees of any property held for, or for purposes of, any weekly or monthly meeting or preparative meeting of the Religious Society of Friends.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations.)

These Regulations revoke and re-make, with modification, the Religious Charities Regulations 1999. These Regulations establish the institutions listed in the Schedule as institutions exempted from registration for the purposes of section 10(1) of the Charities Registration and Regulation Act 2019.

The modification removes the "Liverpool Roman Catholic Archdiocesan Trustees Incorporated" as an institution exempted from registration and establishes the "Archdiocese of Liverpool" as an institution exempted from registration instead.
