Arthur William Moore (1853-1909), of Cronkbourne, Braddan, was Speaker of the House of Keys, and is best known as the author of the two-volume History of the Isle of Man, which appeared in 1900, and was reprinted in 1977 by the Manx Museum and National Trust. He wrote a number of other works of local interest, including Surnames and Place Names of the Isle of Man and Folklore of the Isle of Man. His volume on the Diocese of Sodor and Man in the series "Diocesan Histories" was published by the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge in 1893. Much of the material in this work is used in the History of the Isle of Man.
